Jeep updated the Compass for the 2011 model year with an all-new exterior and, more importantly, optional off-road capability. It’s still not the best choice if you want to take on rough roads, and it doesn’t match other compact SUVs when it comes to interior comfort.
But U.S. News and World Report says that the 2011 Jeep Compass does offer a low sticker price and excellent fuel economy. Read on to learn more the cost of auto insurance for a Jeep Compass!

Jeep Compass Auto Insurance Rates
The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) reports that auto insurance for a Jeep Compass will cost the typical owner $985 annually. That rate is for an owner with seven or more years of driving experience, though.
Someone with between three and six years of experience will pay about $1,843 in annual auto insurance premiums, the NADA expects. Younger and inexperienced drivers can often pay well over $2,000 annually to insure the Jeep Compass.
Auto insurance rates for the Jeep Compass are low compared to the projected rates for other compact SUVs. For instance, the NADA projects annual auto insurance rates of $1,003 for the Ford Explorer, and roughly $1,130 for the Chevrolet Traverse, Mazda CX-9, and Buick Enclave.
The Kia Sorento does have slightly lower projected auto insurance rates than the Jeep Compass, though, at $952 annually.
Jeep Compass Pricing and Trims
For any Jeep Compass trim, adding optional 4-wheel drive capability increases the price by about $1,700. The Compass Sport and Latitude models are both equipped with an I4 2.0 liter engine that delivers 144 horsepower. Other features that come standard on all models include a theft-deterrent system, tinted windows, keyless entry, and a flashlight.
The 2011 base model Jeep Compass Sport starts at $19,295, which puts it among the top six most affordable compact SUVs. The Jeep Patriot is the lowest-priced member of this class, starting at $15,995, and the Kia Sportage, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Hyundai Tucson, and Suzuki Grand Vitara all outprice the Compass as well.
The GMC Terrain is the most expensive compact SUV, with an entry-level MSRP of $24,500.
Jeep Compass Latitude
The 2011 Compass’ mid-range model, the Latitude, begins at $21,645. It distinguishes itself from the Compass Sport by incorporating an automatic transmission and interior features like an auxiliary power outlet, steering wheel-mounted controls, heated front seats, and a front passenger seat that folds down to maximize cargo space.
Jeep Compass Limited
The Jeep Compass Limited has a sticker price of $24,295. This buys you performance features like an upgraded 2.4 liter engine and 18-inch wheels. Inside, you’ll get an upgraded media center with satellite radio capability, leather-trimmed seats, and a power 6-way driver’s seat.
There’s also a vehicle information center and an auto-dimming rearview mirror feature. For a few hundred dollars extra, you can purchase the Limited 70th Anniversary Edition, which includes floor mats.
Safety Features for the Jeep Compass
Neither the insurance industry nor the federal government has crash tested the Jeep Compass, and since the vehicle has been significantly revamped, 2010 ratings don’t apply to the 2011 model. However, Jeep has equipped the 2011 Compass with passive safety features like crush and crumple zones, door guard beams, and a safety cage structure.
Active safety equipment includes electronic stability control, multistage front air bags, supplemental side curtain air bags, and front seat head restraints to prevent whiplash.
Fuel Economy for the Jeep Compass
City fuel efficiency is one of the Compass’ strong suits. At 23 mpg in the city, only the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport and the Ford Escape Hybrid can outdo it. The 2011 Jeep Compass’ city gas mileage is matched by the Mitsubishi Outlander, the Ford Escape, and the Jeep Patriot.
At 27 mpg, the Compass’ highway fuel economy lags behind that offered by these three compact SUVs, as well as the GMC Terrain, Chevy Equinox, and Hyundai Tucson. Other compact SUVs to consider if you do a lot of highway driving include the Kia Sportage, the Toyota RAV4, and the Nissan Rogue.
Jeep Compass Passenger and Cargo Capacity
Reviewers like the 2011 Compass’ upgraded interior, but they note that the back seat is a tight squeeze for adults, and cargo space is limited. With the back seat folded up, it measures just 22.7 cubic feet, and folding the rear seat down creates a 53.6-cubic foot storage area.
If cargo space is critical for you, Toyota’s RAV4 and Honda’s CR-V both offer more; however, you’ll pay more as well.
Jeep Compass Warranty Info
Jeep warrants the Compass with a bumper-to-bumper plan that extends for three years or 36,000 miles, and the vehicle’s powertrain is warranted for 100,000 miles or five years.
The powertrain warranty includes free towing, and it’s transferable to new owners who purchase the Compass while the warranty is still active. This is solid coverage, but Hyundai and Kia still offer the longest limited and powertrain warranties on the market.
The Hyundai Tucson and the Kia Sportage are both under limited warranty for five years or 60,000 miles, and their powertrain warranties are good for 100,000 miles or ten years.
Jeep Compass Reliability
J.D. Power and Associates rates the Jeep Compass’ reliability a 5.0 out of 10. Six other compact SUVs earned 5.0s, and the Suzuki Grand Vitara only earned a score of 4.0. However, there are much more highly-rated vehicles available.
The Honda CR-V and Pilot both earned 9.0s, and the Toyota RAV4 earned an 8.0. The Tucson and the Sportage both earned 7.0s.
